Song for today

Gomez "How We Operate"

Calm down
And get straight
It's not our eyes
It's how we operate

You're true
You are
I'd apologize but it won't go very far

Please come here
Come right on over
And when we collide we'll see what gets left over

A little joy
A little sorrow
And a little pride so we won't have to borrow
Wherever you lead, I'll follow

Turn me inside out and upside down
And try to see things my way
Turn a new page, tear the old one out
And I'll try to see things your way

Please come here
Please come on over
There is no line that you can't step right over
Without you well I'm left hollow
So can we decide to try a little joy tomorrow
'Cos baby tonight I'll follow

The way that we've been speaking now
I swear that we'd be friends, I swear
'Cos all these little deals go down with
Little consequences, we share, we share

And I'm gonna love you anyway
Try to see things your way
Try to see things your way

Trout season.

Trout season opens at 6:00 AM on the last Saturday of April.
It used to open at 5:00AM & before that it was midnight.
Opening day is the only time I will get up early to go fishing. Robert & I rarely miss opening day. We did not go last year.
Opening day is usually cold & today was no different. We decided not to get up early, instead we got up & around, went to breakfast. After breakfast then we got all of our gear on & shivered into the river. The current was almost too fast for me this year. I was scared of falling & I was having a hard time moving against the current.

I caught the first fish. When it jumped I could see that it was a good sized Rainbow.

I was not able to land it though. After that all I caught were Suckers :(

Robert had more luck fishing this trip than I. (Yeah imagine that)

He caught two Rainbow Trout that were on the edge of the size limit of 7 inches. He threw those back. He ripped into a nice Brown Trout.

That Brown was the only fish we brought home.

It was very windy & cold. But the listening to the birds singing & the creek flowing. The excitement of the nibbling of the fish. The doing something with my hubby, It's all worth it.

I thought this funny.

This cracked me up....after my long bout with Tennis Elbow. Or should I say Guitar Hero elbow.

Xbox Healthy Gaming Guide

Don't overdo it! Play it safe and know the guidelines to healthy gaming.

This guide is designed to help you be comfortable while using your Xbox to play video games. It may also help you reduce your risk of experiencing painful and disabling injuries or disorders described in the following Health Warning.

Health Warning

Use of game controllers, keyboards, mice, or other electronic input devices may be linked to serious injuries or disorders.

When playing video games, as with many activities, you may experience occasional discomfort in your hands, arms, shoulders, neck, or other parts of your body. However, if you experience symptoms such as persistent or recurring discomfort, pain, throbbing, aching, tingling, numbness, burning sensation, or stiffness, DO NOT IGNORE THESE WARNING SIGNS. PROMPTLY SEE A QUALIFIED HEALTH PROFESSIONAL, even if symptoms occur when you are not playing a video game. Symptoms such as these can be associated with painful and sometimes permanently disabling injuries or disorders of the nerves, muscles, tendons, blood vessels, and other parts of the body. These musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) include carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, tenosynovitis, vibration syndromes, and other conditions.

While researchers are not yet able to answer many questions about MSDs, there is general agreement that many factors may be linked to their occurrence, including: medical and physical conditions, stress and how one copes with it, overall health, and how a person positions and uses their body during work and other activities (including playing a video game). Some studies suggest that the amount of time a person performs an activity may also be a factor.

Some guidelines that may help you work and play more comfortably and possibly reduce your risk of experiencing an MSD can be found in the following sections of this Guide. These guidelines address topics such as:

  • Positioning yourself to use comfortable, not awkward postures
  • Keeping your hands, fingers and other body parts relaxed
  • Taking breaks
  • Developing a healthy lifestyle

If you have questions about how your own lifestyle, activities, or medical or physical condition may be related to MSDs, see a qualified health professional.

For information about arranging your gaming area and developing habits that may help to reduce your risk of experiencing an MSD, read this "Healthy Xbox Gaming Guide." Because there are a variety of factors that may contribute to MSDs, this guide cannot provide everything you need to know to prevent an MSD or reduce your risk of experiencing one. For some people, following the suggestions may reduce their risk of experiencing an MSD. For others, it may not. However, many people are likely to experience greater comfort when following these suggestions. Keep in mind that this guide is not a substitute for the advice of a qualified health professional. If you have questions about how your own lifestyle, activities, or medical or physical condition may be related to MSDs, see a qualified health professional.

Photosensitive Seizures

A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause these "photosensitive epileptic seizures" while watching video games.

These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearby objects.

Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms—children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures. The risk of photosensitive epileptic seizures may be reduced by taking the following precautions:

  • Sit farther from the screen
  • Use a smaller screen
  • Play in a well-lit room
  • Do not play when you are drowsy or fatigued.

If you or any of your relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing.

Position Yourself

Using your body in comfortable, not awkward, postures is important, whether you're working or playing. Not only can this affect your overall performance, but also it can influence how comfortable you are while playing video games and may help you avoid MSDs. Keep in mind that changing your posture during extended gaming sessions may also help you avoid discomfort and fatigue.

When playing video games, adapt your surroundings and arrange your equipment to promote a comfortable and relaxed body posture. Because everyone has a unique body size and since many factors affect your comfort, we cannot tell you exactly how to set up your area to avoid discomfort; however, the following suggestions may help to provide you with a more comfortable environment. To support your back, consider the following:

  • Choose a chair or seat that provides support for your lower back and allows you to assume a comfortable and natural body posture.

To promote comfortable leg postures, consider the following:

  • Clear away items from your legs to allow comfortable leg positions and movement.

To promote comfortable shoulder and arm postures, consider the following:

  • Your upper arms should fall relaxed at your sides.

To promote proper wrist and finger postures, consider the following:

  • Keep your wrists straight while holding and using controllers. Avoid bending your wrists up, down, or to the sides.

To minimize neck bending and twisting, consider the following:

  • Position yourself and/or the television so that you do not have to tilt your head up or down or side-to-side for extended periods.

To minimize eyestrain, consider the following:

  • Avoid glare. Place your television away from light sources that produce glare, or use window blinds to control light levels.
  • Adjust your television's brightness and contrast to levels that are comfortable for you.
Go Lightly

Physical forces continuously interact with our bodies. We may only think of high-impact forces, such as car crashes, as injuring our bodies. However, low forces may also result in injuries, discomfort, and fatigue if they are repeated or experienced over long periods of time. Consider the following types of low forces:

  • Dynamic force, or a force that you exert through movement. For example, pressing buttons on a gaming controller or the keys of a computer keyboard.
  • Static force, or a force that you maintain for a period of time. For example, holding your gaming controller or cradling the phone.
  • Contact force, or pressure that occurs when you rest on an edge or hard surface. For example, resting your wrists on the edge of your desk, table or other hard surface.

Consider the following suggestions to reduce the effects of low forces on your body:

  • Press gaming controller buttons with a light touch, keeping your hands and fingers relaxed, as it takes little effort to activate these buttons. Also, use a light touch when using control sticks or pads on a gaming controller.
  • Avoid resting your palms or wrists on any type of surface while using game controllers.
  • Relax your arms and hands when you're not actually using game controllers. See "Taking Breaks" section below for additional information.
  • Hold the game controller with a relaxed hand. Do not grip the game controller more tightly than is necessary.
Take Breaks

Taking breaks can go a long way in helping your body recover from any activity and may help you avoid MSDs. The length and frequency of breaks that are right for you depend on the type of activity you are doing. Stopping the activity and relaxing is one way to take a break, but there are other ways, also. These include:

  • Changing tasks can help some muscles relax while others remain productive. For example, you might sit while playing video games but stand when not playing.
  • Using different methods to accomplish the same task. For example, using the controller pad instead of the control stick.
  • Relaxing your arms and hands while watching others play or during cut scenes, replays, or other pauses within a game.
  • Learning about software and hardware features by reading the information that came with your game discs and hardware products.
Be Healthy

A healthy lifestyle can help you perform and enjoy your everyday activities, including the time spent playing video games. For overall good health, consider the following:

  • Eat a balanced diet and get adequate rest.
  • Exercise for overall fitness to give strength and flexibility to your body. Keep in mind that you should consult a qualified health professional to help you choose the stretches and exercises that are right for you.
  • Learn to manage stress.
  • See a qualified health professional if you have questions about how your medical and physical conditions may be related to MSDs. While researchers are not yet able to answer many questions about MSDs, there is general agreement that many factors may be linked to their occurrence, including previous injuries, diabetes, hormonal changes (such as pregnancy), and rheumatoid arthritis.

Foo Fighters

On the way into work this morning I heard a song I just loved. As it turns out I have this song in my media collection....Go Figure. It looks like also I can download this for GH3. SWEET!

Foo Fighters All My Life

All my life I've been searching for something

Something never comes never leads to nothing

Nothing satisfies but I'm getting close

Closer to the prize at the end of the rope

All night long I dream of the day

When it comes around then it's taken away

Leaves me with the feeling that I feel the most

Feel it come to life when I see your ghost

Come down don't you resist

You have such a delicate wrist

And if I give it a twist

Somethin' to hold when I lose my grip

Will I find something in that

So give me just what I need

Another reason to bleed

One by one hidden up my sleeve

One by one hidden up my sleeve

Hey don't let it go to waste

I love it but I hate the taste

Weight keeping me down

Will I find a believer

Another one who believes

Another one to deceive

Over and over down on my knees

If I get any closer

And if you open up wide

And if you let me inside

On and on I've got nothing to hide

On and on I've got nothing to hide

All my life I've been searching for something

Something never comes never leads to nothing

Nothing satisfies but I'm getting close

Closer to the prize at the end of the rope

All night long I dream of the day

When it comes around then it's taken away

Leaves me with the feeling that I feel the most

Feel it come to life when I see your ghost

And I'm done, done onto the next one

Done, done and I'm onto the next one

Finally finished this one!

Narabedla Ltd.

Fredrik Pohl

I started this book last summer. It was from a pile of hand me downs. This is the book I took with me on my trip to RI. I tried to read it on the plane but the view out the window & excitement of my trip kept pulling me out of the book. I even took it to the beach with me....I don't think I read one damn word of it there LOL. Although I may have tried or at least looked like I tried :)
After I got back I set Narabedla aside for Stephen King, & other authors that tickle me more.
Even with all that setting aside this little book was very very good! Once I set my mind to get into it :P
It was very thought provoking. It sent off all kinds off what if bells in my head.

Earth Quakes not only for California.

We had an Earth Quake this morning! Well it's epicenter was in Illinois. It was felt at least 100 miles from that point. It happened at 5:40 ish am this morning. Robert felt it as he was still in bed with Zoie. I was barely moving around in the kitchen or bathroom & I did not notice it.

They say we had another at like 11:20. I did not feel that either.
This is the second quake we've had that I've not noticed. The first one was the day my cousin Jason was born. That was a long time ago LOL!

I'm kinda bummed I missed it! It was all anyone, the news included talked about today.

New Song

I heard this song Lost you in the Canyon by Marc Cohn.

After some research I found out that this is from his 1998 album Burning the Daze. I was looking for Lost in the Canyon on YouTube but all I could find was Walking in Memphis which is his most famous one hit wonder if you will.

This Burning the Daze album also has a nifty little song called Providence which I liked.

Got your call from California

But I could hardly hear your voice

Through the hissing of the highway

And all that other noise

You said “I might lose you in the canyon”

Then you went riding up the coast

Now all these things we leave unspoken

Seem to haunt me like a ghost

I lost you in the canyon

Guess you tried to let me know

Lost you in the canyon

A long, long time ago

Lost you in the canyon

Brother you fade out slow

There were times I thought I knew you

Before these changes came to pass

But you don’t think about it do you?

From up there in your house of glass

The Earth is shifting underneath you

The land is sliding all around

Do you ever stop to wonder

About that paradise you’ve found?

I lost you in the canyon

Guess you tried to let me know

Lost you in the canyon

A long, long time ago

Lost you in the canyon

Brother you fade out slow

I hear you moving through the mountains

Through the fires and the floods

But I can’t fix this bad connection

In the wires or the blood

I lost you in the canyon
Guess you tried to let me know

Lost you in the canyon

A long, long time ago

Lost you in the canyon

Brother you fade out slow

I got the dreaded sickness that is going around....

The week before last Robert got a head cold, bad one. I thought I was going to get through this year sick free: I was wrong:(
Last week I was feverish. Then Sunday I got a tickle in my throat & a cough. I stayed home Monday & Tuesday but this cold has only gotten worse with time.
Today I woke with my throat sorer & I've had no voice on & off today. The cough I have is akin to a smokers cough. I thought I was done with smokers cough Two years ago *rolls eyes*

I guess some say me w/o a voice is heavenly!

Meeting people from school.

I went to dinner with a group of people from where I went to high school. It was nice. It was way out of my comfort zone but I'm glad I went.
I rather like meeting these people as an adult much better than my time in high school. I came into their school from a rival school. I don't think I ever quite fit into any one group. I was mostly invisible & as they say quiet. The kids I did get to know & hang with were from different grades.

In the summers I could hang with some of the cooler kids, whilst at work:P

Anyway this is a neat idea before the 20 year (yeah it has been that long!) Getting to know some of these people will make the reunion easier I think.

Tonight's Oprah.

I rarely watch Oprah any more but I watched today. Her show was on all the unwanted dogs in shelters around the nation. (Clicky here to see more on the show.)
They filmed a kill shelter, they went through the motions of putting the dogs to sleep & how many they have to put to sleep a day. Note: that next week will be a year since I held Elmo in my arms as I made the decision to let her go. Watching this Oprah made me bawl an all out sobbing cry:(
I did not get to see the whole show but there was a segment about Puppy Mills also.

I'm still looking for a dog to adopt. With the limits they give due to the fenced in yard & with Zoie being as rambunctious as she is......we have not found the right fit yet.

Update on my Elbow.

I went to the Orthopedic specialist today. I got stuck in the doctors office for two hours.
Dr. Hix swears that even after months of trying different things that it is Tennis Elbow. (You know you're getting old when your all your doctors are younger than you......& this doctor is cuuuute!)
After a discussion about why he thinks this & the REMOTE possibility that is is anything other than Tennis Elbow. we decided on another Cortisone Shot.
As many of you remember my family doctor gave me one of these months ago. That shot did not hurt much in fact it was funny to me because the lidocane made my arm numb & I laughed all the way home.
I told Dr. Hix to go ahead. I was not expecting the pain that ensued. HOLY CRAP! That was the most painfu thing I've experienced to date. AT this moment it is still throbbing like a toothache, not to mention it made my elbow three times too big.
If this works, I should be mad at all the money I've thrown at this in the interim between shots..(Physical Therapy 6 visits at about $135.00 a pop!, Thank god for insurance!)
if it makes the constant pain go away, I will do a happy dance! Wish me luck.

Can you read my mind?

Read My Mind - The Killers

On the corner of main street

Just tryin' to keep it in line

You say you wanna move on and
You say I'm falling behind

Can you read my mind?

Can you read my mind?

I never really gave up on

Breakin' out of this two-star town

I got the green light

I got a little fight

I'm gonna turn this thing around

Can you read my mind?

Can you read my mind?

The good old days, the honest man;

The restless heart, the Promised Land

A subtle kiss that no one sees;

A broken wrist and a big trapeze

Oh well I don't mind, if you don't mind

'Cause I don't shine if you don't shine

Before you go, can you read my mind?

It’s funny how you just break down

Waitin' on some sign

I pull up to the front of your driveway

With magic soakin' my spine

Can you read my mind?

Can you read my mind?

The teenage queen, the loaded gun;

The drop dead dream, the Chosen One

A southern drawl, a world unseen;

A city wall and a trampoline

Oh well I don't mind, if you don't mind

'Cause I don't shine if you don't shine

Before you jump

Tell me what you find when you read my mind

Slippin’ in my faith until I fall

You never returned that call

Woman, open the door, don't let it sting

I wanna breathe that fire again

She said I don't mind, if you don't mind

'Cause I don't shine if you don't shine

Put your back on me

Put your back on me

Put your back on me

The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out
of the sun
When you read my mind
